My Journey So Far
I’m Harry, on the business card it says ‘Furniture maker, restorer & teacher’. I might add conifer cone collector, tree advocate, Folk Craft dabbler & Stan's best mate on to that.
In 2019 I graduated from West Dean college of arts & conservation, I was there for 2 years studying ‘Historic Craft Practice - Furniture’. It was during this time I started ‘HTMorris Furniture Ltd.’. The plan was to design and make furniture using traditional tools, materials & techniques; and spread the word of craft. West Dean is a wonderful place filled with wonderful, interesting people and things.
Shortly after graduating I traveled to Japan to take part in a intensive carpentry course in Kyoto, at Suikoushya craft school. I spend 2 months in Japan, following the course, to live with and document people practising heritage crafts. I met some amazing people.
I then spent a short few months at an environmental charity in Sydney, Australia. The Bower reuse and repair center. Thanks to my good friend Shane (who I met at West Dean). Here I made a piece of furniture and assisted with a bit of teaching on their woodwork & repair courses.
returning to the uk just before 2020, I starting taking on commission work.
i now mainly make Windsor chairs to commission, do restoration work & teach courses.
ALSO... I help run a community farm in N. Bristol with my brother & 4 others - GotGreens Farm cic
